Specification for petroleum fuels for oil engines and burners. by British Standards Institution. Download PDF EPUB FB2

This specification covers four grades of fuel oil made in whole or in part with hydrocarbon-based used or reprocessed lubricating oil or functional fluids, such as preservative and hydraulic fluids. The four grades of fuel are intended for use in various types of fuel-oil-burning industrial equipment under various climatic and operating conditions.

In general, petroleum fuels for marine diesel engines are classified as marine gas oil (MGO), MDO, intermediate fuel oil (IFO), MFO, and heavy fuel oil. An international standard of fuels for marine diesel engines is provided and established in as ISO [14] by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

H Local jurisdictions may limit the sulfur content in burner fuels. I Assumes lb/US gal. J These are US EPA current limits (40 CFR Part and 40 CFR Part ). If state or local requirements for used oil are more stringent, the burner fuel offered shall comply with the more stringent requirements.

Describes Specification for petroleum fuels for oil engines and burners. book for class A1 petroleum fuel oil for automotive diesel engines. While this applies to petroleum fuel, it is recognized that there is currently growing interest in the possibility of deriving alternative fuels. When assessing suitability of such alternative fuels, the standard may be used only as a.

The amount of sulphur in the fuel oil depends mainly on the source of the crude oil and to a lesser extent on the refining process. The normal sulfur content for the residual fuel oil (furnace oil) is in the order of %. Typical figures are: Fuel oil Percentage of Sulphur Kerosene – Diesel Oil.

Notification. Marketers and burners of hazardous waste fuel and off-specification used oil fuel are required to notify EPA regarding their waste-as-fuel activities under §§ (b), (b), (b)(3), and (b). These persons must so notify either EPA or States authorized by EPA to operate the hazardous waste program by.

In some jurisdictions, used oil is considered a hazardous waste and fuels from used oil are required to meet certain criteria before use as a fuel. Note 2—For United States federal requirements imposed on used oil generators, transporters and transfer facilities, reprocessors, marketers, and burners.

Oxides of nitrogen (NOx) formed in combustion processes are due either to thermal fixation of atmospheric nitrogen in the combustion air ("thermal NOx"), or to the conversion of chemically bound nitrogen in the fuel ("fuel NOx").The term NOx refers to the composite of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen.

Fuel Oil No A residual oil with some distillate content, but requiring pre-heating. Use is in commercial and industrial oil burners. Sale is by the gallon, tanker or truckload minimum.

Average ofBTUs per gallon Fuel Oil No Often called “Bunker C,” this is the heaviest residual fuel, and preheating. When using CJ-4 oil with higher than 15 ppm sulfur fuel, consult the engine manufacturer for service interval. For the purposes of this standard, any fuel covered by one of the following specifications for petroleum distillate fuels, with or without varying amounts of bio-diesel fuel meeting the specifications of ASTM D, Standard Specification for Biodiesel Fuel Blend.

The biodiesel component of the blend shall conform to the requirements of Specification DThe remainder of the fuel shall be a light middle or middle distillate grade diesel fuel conforming to Specification D grades No.

The pyrolysis liquid biofuel listed under Grade D in Table 1 is not intended for use in residential heaters, engines, or marine applications not modified to handle these types of fuels.

Note 1—For information on the significance of the physical, chemical, and performance properties identified in this specification. Diesel Fuel Types Crude Oil The term crude oil is used to describe petroleum-based oils/fuels that are not yet refined.

They are essentially in the same state as when they were pumped from the earth. Certain types of crude oils can be burned in Cat engines. In some cases, crude oil is a practical and economical fuel for diesel engines.

It presents typical results for a medium grade petroleum fuel oil and for a coal-tar fuel. Because of the high percentages of hydrogen in petroleum oil fuels, the differences between gross and net calorific values are much greater than for coals, or for coal tar fuels.

Highlights We examine engine performance on unaltered waste soybean oil-petroleum fuel blends. Fuels containing 15%, 30%, 40% and 50% waste soybean oil were created for analysis.

Power and torque were analyzed on three vehicles on a chassis dynamometer. Performance for 15%, 30% and 40% WVO blends averaged % less than pure diesel. Performance for the 50% WVO. This series roughly parallels that of petroleum fuel oils already described, so that with as few changes as possible to the users’ equipment, a bio-oil could be used in place of the equivalent petroleum-derived oil.

The specifications for biomass pyrolysis oils differ. Note 1) Diesel fuels are in USA broken up into 3 different classes: 1D, 2D and difference between these classes depends on viscosity and boiling point ranges.

4D fuels tend to be used in low-speed engines.2D fuels are used in warmer weather and are sometimes mixed with 1D fuel to create a competent winter fuel.1D fuel is preferred for cold weather as it has a lower viscosity.

An oil burner is a heating device which burns #1, #2 and #6 heating oils, diesel fuel or other similar the United States ultra low #2 diesel is the common fuel used.

It is dyed red to show that it is road-tax exempt. In most markets of the United States heating oil is the same specification of fuel as on-road un-dyed diesel.

This specification covers purchases of aviation turbine fuel under contract and is intended primarily for use by purchasing agencies. This ASTM D - 11b standard specification for aviation turbine. The ability of rape seed oil to be used with prechamber engines and in a burner is proved and results are very promising.

Meanwhile, these results are obtained with a specially fitted burner (settings and modifications) for refined rape seed oil. Small scale rapeseed production was studied with a farm «plant model», using linear programming. Synonyms for No.

6 fuel oil include residual fuel oil or RFO, heavy fuel oil or HFO. 6 fuel oil is the remainder of a petroleum fuel distillation process after gasoline and the distillate fuel oils listed above have been boiled off or distilled.

6 fuel oil may be used in electrical power generators and some heavy duty engines. It has a Pour Point specification of 18 o C maximum. F low temperature diesel/kerosene fuel blend. F is a military fuel used in compression ignition engines in Denmark and Greece.

It is normally referred to as FUEL NAVAL DISTILLATE, low pour point. (See Naval fuels). NOTE: For further details about these fuels, see Annex C to STANAG   Different portions of the used cooking oil and used engine were mixed to produce several blends for use as heavy oil fuels.
